There was a wall separating the kitchen from the basement stairway a never used pocket door. Wiring was relocated and the wall removed and patched. A new railing was built and installed. A wall cubby for shoes was also created, behind the exterior door. The cubby was completely lined with white formica, making it waterproof. A new, stainless steel basement railing was also installed.

The old oak built-in and trim was looking pretty tired and dated. There was only room for a small TV and the polished brass on the fireplace was sooo 80's. We removed all the oak, ran new electrical to accommodate the new, large flat screen TV. We built a custom mantle and new, shaker style doors, both in solid walnut. The polished brass got painted in a flat black and a granite surround was added. The customer opted to get rid of the hearth and just patch the carpet to give it a modern look. We also added door kickers to allow the doors to be opened and closed without the need for pulls or handles. A lot of shop work was involved in the building of all this. Good thing the beer fridge was well stocked.
